BULGARIA AND JAPAN TAKE A NEW STEP TOWARDS CLOSER ECONOMIC COOPERATION – BAI AND JETRO SIGN COOPERATION MEMORANDUM

On June 25, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Sofia between the  InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The agreement lays the foundation for a deepened partnership in support of Japanese investment in Bulgaria and promotes bilateral economic exchange between the two countries.

The event was part of the Bulgarian-Japanese Business Forum, which brought together representatives of institutions, business organizations, and companies from both countries.

Ms. Mila Nenova, Executive Director of the IBA, took part in the closing panel and delivered a keynote speech in which she emphasized the importance of Bulgaria’s strategic positioning on the map of international investors.

Bulgaria has a range of advantages – a stable regulatory environment, EU membership, competitive costs, and a highly educated workforce. However, these advantages are still little known to Japanese businesses. That is why the signing of this memorandum with JETRO is so significant – it is the first step towards a more visible, structured, and effective partnership,” said Ms. Nenova.

According to Ms. Nenova, a secure investment environment and long-term predictability are particularly important for Japanese companies that value sustainability, high standards, and technological integration in their projects.
