IBA participated in the annual conference of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA)

In the period 13-15 May 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey was held the annual conference of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). The focus of the event was to determine where to be localized the headquarters of WAIPA. The choice was between the current - Geneva, Switzerland and Istanbul, Turkey.

The congress was attended by only 86 of the total 170 member of WAIPA, participants from Central and Eastern Europe were missing - Serbia, Greece, Macedonia, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland. However, very significant was the presence the members from of Africa and Latin America, a substantial part of the delegation. In the forum actively attended George Alipiev, Chief Expert "Sectoral Investment Services", as a representative of InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA).

At the beginning of the Congress the participants were introduced to the agenda of the event, providing the panel devoted mainly to two issues - in the first part of the activities of the Turkish Investment Agency and Istanbul as a possible future headquarter for WAIPA. After the interesting presentations of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Turkey and a local authority of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was the order of the afternoon session of the Congress. In it, main focus was the vote for determining the headquarter of WAIPA. Overall 82 of the 87 members of the investment agencies worldwide, including the representative of the IBA, supported Istanbul for future headquarter of WAIPA and the decision takes effect immediately.

At the closing session of the congress were discussed best practices for attracting investments in different countries, it was noted that for the first time since statistically monitoring the flows of foreign direct investment, 60% of them are made in developing countries - and especially those from the group of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China).

The representative of the IBA made ​​contact with the investment agencies of Turkey, Russia, Japan, Romania, UK, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Malta.
