The International Forum “Bulgaria and the OECD in the Context of National Economic Development and Green Transition” was held on November 7 and 8 in Stara Zagora. The event, organized by the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, examined the role of the private sector in the transition to a greener economy and the promotion of sustainable development in Bulgaria. Special attention was paid to the country’s progress on the path to membership in the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and adaptation to environmental and social standards for sustainable development.
On the first day of the forum, Ms. Mila Nenova took part in a panel session on “OECD – Bulgaria’s Membership, Goals and Progress, Investment Climate and Regional Development”. She stressed that the country is currently in a favorable position to attract investors, taking advantage of its strategic location on the border of the European Union. This geographical advantage gives Bulgaria a unique role as a gateway to access the European market and creates conditions for the development of the regional economy and attracting foreign investments.
Ms. Nenova added that by achieving the goals of the green transition, the country will strengthen its attractiveness for sustainable and environmentally oriented projects. She stressed that investments in renewable energy sources should be encouraged, which will not only help achieve the decarbonization goals, but also increase the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy in accordance with OECD requirements. The panel was moderated by Mr. Slavcho Neykov, Chairman of the Institute for Energy Management, and the other panelists were Ms. Gabriela Georgieva from EAMSP and Dr. Rumyana Grozeva, Executive Director of RDA – Stara Zagora.
