IBA ORGANIZED A ROUND TABLE ON “BULGARIA’S STRENGTHS THROUGH THE EYES OF FOREIGN INVESTORS.”

On 29.11.2023 at the Hayat Hotel, Sofia. Sofia held a round table on “Bulgaria’s Strengths through the Eyes of Foreign Investors”, organized by the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA). Mila Nenova, Executive Director of the Agency opened and led the meeting, in her address to the bilateral chambers, she praised the work of the chambers and assured them that IBA is ready to increase its cooperation with them.  

The purpose of this closed workshop was to hear the opinion of the business and the bilateral chambers on the strengths of Bulgaria as an investment destination. She assured them that the results of the meeting will be included in the presentation of Bulgaria abroad and will be an integral part of the establishment of “Brand Bulgaria”.  

The first panel was attended by expats who successfully do business in Bulgaria such as Edward Simlink, Ryan Fischer, Markus Krueger, Roberto Santorelli, Emrah Sazak, Adrian Baki, Tommy Ver Elst and Paul Wright. The expats agreed that Bulgaria is not only a good destination for business, but also provides wonderful conditions for social life, security for citizens and beautiful nature. The main advantages of our country, according to the panelists, are tax policy, fiscal predictability and economic stability, good education and trained staff in all sectors, especially in engineering, as well as in STEM training. The representatives of the companies noted the strong institutional support for the business, the good logistics connectivity, the common market, the good infrastructure, including highways and ports, as well as the strategic geographical position of our country. Other strengths that were highlighted were the low costs for business, nearshoring, access to European funding, high level of English language proficiency, etc.  

Investors expressed positive feedback from their work with IBA, support and readiness for assistance throughout the investment and after the investment process.  

The second panel was attended by representatives of the bilateral chambers of commerce, namely: German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Bulgarian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Association of Austria in Bulgaria, Confindustria Bulgaria, Bulgarian-Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Bulgarian-British Business Association and Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The chambers made recommendations in several directions, strengthening regional cooperation and supply chain, to have clearly defined strategic sectors to develop, large-scale positioning and promotion of Bulgaria through participation in major events abroad. According to the bilateral chambers, a key priority for the country is the return of Bulgarians from abroad to realize their capacity and experience at home.
