From June 30 to July 2, 2025, Bulgaria hosted an official visit by a delegation from Sichuan Province, China, led by Vice Governor Mr. Dong Weimin. The delegation included representatives of key economic and foreign affairs institutions of the province, among them the Commission for Development and Reform, the Foreign Affairs Office, the Bureau for Economic Cooperation, and the Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Sichuan.
The main goal of the visit was to deepen bilateral economic cooperation between Bulgaria and China, as well as to present opportunities for investments and joint projects.
On June 30, the delegation visited the new office of the Bulgarian Investment Agency (BAI), where a meeting with the Agency’s team was held. BAI representatives presented the investment promotion incentives and Bulgaria’s strategic advantages as a business destination within the European Union.
As part of the visit, on July 1 a Conference on Economic and Trade Cooperation between Bulgaria and China took place at the Millennium Sofia Hotel. The event gathered around 80 representatives of Bulgarian and Chinese institutions and companies, including officials from the Embassy of China in Bulgaria. The conference provided a platform for direct dialogue between businesses from both countries and for showcasing investment opportunities.
Ms. Mila Nenova, Executive Director of BAI, delivered a presentation on Bulgaria’s incentives and measures for foreign investors, highlighting the sectors with the highest potential for cooperation with China.
The Bulgarian Commercial and Economic Office (STIV) in Shanghai emphasized that China is one of Bulgaria’s leading trading partners outside the EU. In 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to USD 3.8 billion. Among the most promising sectors for Bulgarian exports are food processing, agriculture, essential oils, cosmetics, wine, and mineral water.
The visit of the Sichuan delegation represents an important step in the economic partnership between Bulgaria and China and lays the foundation for future initiatives.
