FORUM “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND BUSINESS INTEGRITY”

The forum “Sustainable Development and Business Integrity”, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry and Transparency International Bulgaria, was held on May 15 at Sofia Hotel Balkan.

Among the topics of the forum were business integrity in the context of ESG standards (environmental, social and governance data) and the new European standards for sustainability accountability, as well as the practical implementation of good governance standards.

The caretaker Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Nikolay Pavlov, emphasized the importance of Bulgaria’s decision to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and in his words this is a decision for the future. This is a solution for the future, for a modern, sustainable, prosperous society that functions in a stable market economy and democratic governance, Pavlov said. He added that with membership in the OECD, Bulgaria will participate on an equal footing with other member states in setting standards in key areas.

François Valerian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transparency International, noted the importance of investing in integrity. This was not easy to say 15 years ago when we were trying to explain to firms to invest in integrity, but now we have reached a tipping point where investors value those who invest in integrity, he pointed out. Valerian added that today there are companies that invest in the climate, the environment, there is an investment community and added that this affects the capital markets, which highly value those who invest in integrity.
