Mila Nenova, Executive Director of InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA) is among the Bulgarian delegation to represent Bulgaria at the Climate Action Summit at Expo City, Dubai. The Bulgarian pavilion was officially opened on December 1 by President Rumen Radev and the forum itself will continue until December 12.
According to the program, the Bulgarian pavilion envisages events focusing on the effects of climate change on health. Bulgaria’s strong commitment to implementing appropriate measures against climate change will also be demonstrated and its ambitions to achieve climate objectives covering all key economic sectors will be highlighted. COP28 provides an opportunity to present Bulgaria’s efforts for systemic transformation along the path of climate action, with a focus on scientific solutions involving environmental modelling and monitoring based on satellite and terrestrial data.
Ms. Nenova was invited to take part in a discussion panel on “Upgrading the latest technologies for industrial decarbonization in Central and Eastern Europe”, in which she presented the activities of IBA and the role of the agency as a mediator between business and state institutions. The incentive measures were also mentioned, which are structured in two main directions – financial and non-financial, and they are provided by the state in order to encourage investments with high added value. In her words, it became clear that investors are increasingly striving to achieve a certain capacity renewable energy with direct supply, and are also interested in biogas, green hydrogen and the construction of solar parks.
The panel discussion was opened by Milena Stoycheva, Minister of Innovation and Growth, and moderator was Martin Vladimirov, Director of the Center for the Study of Democracy. Melanie Kenderdyne, Director of the Energy Futures Initiative and Dr. Maria Trifonova, Research Fellow at the Energy and Climate Program of the Center for the Study of Democracy, Andrey Kovatariu, Co-Chair of the Working Group on Digitalization in Energy, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Winston Beck, Head of Government Affairs, Heidelberg Materials Group, Dimitar Enchev, Co-founder and CEO Europe, CWP Global .
