INVESTMENTS THAT TRANSFORM REGIONS: FOCUS ON SHUMEN

The working meetings of Invest Bulgaria Agency in Shumen outlined key projects with high added value and new opportunities for industrial development in the region.

The management of Invest Bulgaria Agency, together with representatives of the Agency’s expert team, visited the city of Shumen during the period 15–17 January 2026 with the aim of holding working meetings with key investors, representatives of local authorities, and the region’s industrial zone.

During the visit, the IBA team familiarized itself on site with the progress of leading investment projects and discussed opportunities for institutional support for their expansion.

Among the main highlights was the meeting with the management of Alcomet AD, the largest Bulgarian producer of aluminium rolled and extruded products. The company is implementing a priority investment project worth over BGN 120 million, which will result in the creation of 160 new jobs. The stages of the project’s implementation were discussed, as well as opportunities for support under the Investment Promotion Act.

As part of the visit, the IBA team also held a meeting with the Executive Director of Industrial Park – Shumen, during which current investment projects and plans for the future expansion of the industrial zone were discussed.

At a meeting with the Mayor of Shumen Municipality, Prof. Hristo Hristov, specific opportunities for attracting new investments to the region were examined, including ideas for the establishment of a technopark and the development of an industrial megapark focused on projects with high added value. Invest Bulgaria Agency presented its investment promotion instruments and reaffirmed its commitment to actively support local authorities in the implementation of strategic projects.

Mr. Angel Ivanov, Acting Executive Director of IBA, and Mr. Yulian Balchev, Secretary General of the Agency, also took part in a roundtable discussion organized by the Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the participation of companies from the region. During the discussion, opportunities for investor support were presented, and specific challenges facing businesses were addressed, including the need for a qualified workforce, visa regimes for foreign employees, and the link between education and the real needs of industry.

As part of the visit, the IBA team also held a working meeting with the management of ENPAY Transformer Components Bulgaria EOOD regarding the company’s planned new investment of EUR 60 million. The project will expand the company’s production capacity and position Bulgaria as a strategic manufacturing center in the global value chain for high value-added transformer components.

The meetings held in Shumen are part of Invest Bulgaria Agency’s active policy of maintaining direct dialogue with investors and local authorities, and of supporting regional economic development through sustainable and high-tech investment projects.
