MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS FOR A UNITED EUROPE

The forum “Major Infrastructure Projects for a United Europe” was organized by Confindustria Bulgaria and was held in the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis in Plovdiv. The topic of the round table was dedicated to infrastructure projects and brought together experts from both countries who shared information and experience.

At the official opening of the forum, greetings to the participants were made by Roberto Santorelli, Chairman of Confindustria Bulgaria, Plamen Panov – Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archeology and Tourism of the Municipality of Plovdiv, the Ambassador of Italy to Bulgaria Giuseppina Zarra and Maria Luisa Meroni, Chairman of Confindustria Eastern Europe.

In the second part of the forum, a round table was held with the participation of Mila Nenova, Executive Director of the  InvestBulgaria Agency, Fabio Napoli, Chairman of the Association of Builders SALERNO, David Beruffi from Unireticon, Plamen Panchev, Executive Director of Trakia Economic Zone and Dimitar Yanev, representative of Plovdiv Airport. The moderator of the event was Martin Stoyanov, representative of MAPEI Bulgaria.

During the round table, Ms. Nenova shared the importance of infrastructure development in Bulgaria and how this is directly related to attracting investments. Promoting investments in innovative technologies for the organization of combined transport in order to improve services and reduce transport times is a leading need. She emphasized that the functioning railway and road terminals are concentrated in the south-central and south-eastern parts of the country, which in turn is a prerequisite for these regions to be a more attractive destination for investors, as a good example is the Trakia Economic Zone. In this regard, Mrs. Nenova thanked Mr. Plamen Panchev for the fruitful joint work. He, in turn, said that he is successfully working with IBA to attract investors not only from Europe, but also from Asia.

“An efficient transport system is vital for EU businesses and citizens. The EU’s transport policy promotes environmentally friendly, safe and efficient travel across Europe. Transport is currently responsible for a quarter of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions. The EU aims to reduce these emissions by 90% by 2050. Moving towards more sustainable transport means putting people first by providing them with healthier, cleaner and cheaper alternatives.” This was shared by David Berufi and presented a project for an intermodal multicenter Italy – Bulgaria – Paneurhythmy.
